At the beginning of the game, each player places their 12 pieces on the dark squares of the first 3 horizontal rows on their side. The player with the white pieces makes the first move. Pieces move on the dark squares. A piece can be moved diagonally forward in two directions to the next empty square. If, in the direction of the move, there is an opponent's piece on an adjacent square and there is an empty square behind it, a jump must be made – the player's piece must leap over the opponent's piece, land on the empty square, and the captured piece must be removed. In this situation, the jump must be made either forward or backward. If the opponent's pieces are arranged in a row alternating with empty squares, a jump over the pieces must be made, regardless of the direction, and all the captured pieces must be removed. If a piece reaches the last horizontal row by a simple move, it is promoted to a king and passes the turn to the opponent. If a piece reaches the last horizontal row by jumping, the jump continues with the rights of a king. A piece cannot jump over the same piece twice, but it is allowed to cross the same empty square multiple times.
A king is denoted by a double piece, with one piece placed on top of the other, both of the same color. A king can move diagonally across an unlimited number of squares in any direction. A king cannot jump over its own pieces. If a king encounters an opponent's piece and there is at least one empty square behind it, a jump must be made, placing the king on any free square in the direction of the jump, behind the opponent's piece. If, after capturing one piece, a jump can be continued from the next free square, it must be done. The player who captures or blocks all the opponent’s pieces wins. If neither player can win, the game ends in a draw.
